In SharePoint 2013 the new DataSheet View offers a lot of new cool features like dynamically Adding Items, Adding list columns, Viewing Items Properties from the datasheetView itself etc..
Datasheet View in SP2013 is considered more as a view for multiple editing of items. In the Custom list you have an Option to edit Items and that would open the list in the datasheet view for editing. In document libraries however you will have to create the Datasheet view.
DataSheet View in Custom list – You can simple click on “edit” this list to get to the datasheet view. They it is as a quick edit.
Resulting datasheet view -
Notice in the above view you have a button to Stop editing this is basically “View in Standard mode” and a “+” sign. This new sign is to dynamically add fields in the list and to the view.. how cool is that!
Lets look at How to Create a new datasheet view –
Since custom lists already has a quick edit list option I will create a datasheet view in the document library.
Open the document library and click on “…” next to “All Documents”
Click on “Create View” and then Select the Datasheet View.
In the datasheet view settings select the same old columns, sort, filter, number of items to display options etc
Once done click “OK”. This is how you new datasheet view looks like.
Notice the “+” add Column option. This adds columns to your list and this view dynamically. Click on “+” gives you these basic data types to start with.
when you click on “More Column Types” you get the old Create column page in a dialog.
The columns are added instantly to your view and list.
