Summary : Share your SharePoint Online 2013 Site Anonymously with External Users,Share a site with external users – SharePoint 2013 Online,SharePoint Online 2013 – Sharing with External Users
While working for various Office 365 Clients through my Company Akrura Technologies the most requests I have ever got was related to Sharing the Site with External users.Microsoft too realized the Importance of this feature and that’s why they added a new Option where you can now Share your SharePoint Online 2013 Site with Anonymous External Users. By “Anonymous” I mean they External Users who does not have to Sign in with any Live id.
Lets look at how it works –
If you want to enable this for a Individual Site collection, you can do that from SharePoint Online admin center where you select the Site collection and click on “Sharing” tab in the Ribbon.Set the option “Allow both external users who accept sharing invitations and anonymous guest links” option for “External Settings” for the selected site collection.
2. Once that’s done navigate to a Site or a Library that you want to Share with Anonymous External Users. For this example we will only Share a document for edit with a External email address.
Share the document first.
Add a external users emails (I added a gmail account of mine),set the Permission “can edit” or “can view” and uncheck “Require sign-in” option (since we are setting up this external user to access this document Anonymously or without required to Sign in)
4. External user can then simply click on the Document link that was Shared from the e-mail itself. The document in our example was shared for edit which means External user can edit the document and save it back to sharepoint without even getting to the SharePoint Online site. See below what the documnet looks like when opened from e-mail in Chrome browser.
User can edit this document using “Edit in Browser” option available on top left.
This option is Incredible since users don’t need to get a windows Live id to Login to an External SharePoint Online 2013 site.
