How to grab the last record of a list and then get a column from that record

I have a SharePoint list that holds problem tickets. Each record has a column called ticketNum which has the ticket number. What I'd like to do is grab the last record and then grab the value from the ticketNum column of that last record. Thanks very much in advance to all who reply!

You have add a script in your Newform that will grab the data you needed from the last item

Get items from list Desc Created by

 

CAML – >

var _query =”<view><query><where></Where></Query><orderby><fieldref Name='Created' Ascending=’FALSE’/></OrderBy></View>";

 

and then get the first item and get it's id.
